There are bills to be paid, machines to keep in repair,
Irregular verbs to learn, the Time Being to redeem
From insignificance.

W.H. (Wystan Hugh) Auden (1907–1973), Anglo-American poet, essayist.

Juvenilia; Poems, 1922-1928 [W. H. Auden]. Katherine Bucknell, ed. (1994) Princeton University Press.

  1. Oh my gosh. Where is this and why is it all abandoned? Both the poetry and image are very evocative!

    • Finds such as this are on every back road in the hills of North East Tennessee. Most are not as photogenic as this particular scene. Generally they are overgrown and inaccessible. I knew this spot was magic when I saw it. I ignored the
“NO TRESPASSING” signs on the property line and stole what I could from there with my wonderful “magic box”.
Thank you for inquiring about the area. I’m smiling

  2. If you keep any rusted hunk of junk around long enough, it becomes art!

    • I find the old farm relics as they sit abandoned in fields to be the best! I find myself wondering: “What happened to you that the farmer could abandon and forget your many years of use and service like this?” Then I snap away…. 🙂

  3. I want one!!! Love it.

    • I really was in awe of the tractor. I wasn’t sure if it is a true tractor or some kind of cross bred contraption. I LOVE the iron wheels on the rear with the huge 7 inch pyramid type traction devices. The old iron seat is cool. The old home in the background had stories to tell, it had some burned spots to it…before or after being deserted? I do love these places.

  4. wow!! there is something in there which makes me keep looking at it.

  5. I’m just wondering who cuts the grass!
