THIS OLD GUITAR

NEIL YOUNG

This old guitar ain’t mine to keep
Just taking care of it now
It’s been around for years and years
Just waiting in its old case
It’s been up and down the country roads
It’s brought a tear and a smile
It’s seen its share of dreams and hopes
And never went out of style
The more I play it, the better it sounds
It cries when I leave it alone
Silently it waits for me
Or someone else I suppose

  1. WHERE WHERE WHERE IS THIS???? I MUST GO IN PERSON!!!!

  2. It’s just west of Bristol, off I-81 on TN-11E. I’ll get you the exit number soon… (tennessee)

  3. It’s a museum? Wow! Is it still operational.
This is what I, as a non-American, think of as an iconic image associated with America. The bike, the guitar, the sense of heartland and glory days. Marvelous shot.

    • I didn’t even notice the bike, I was so wrapped up in the guitar!

    • The building is empty now. But in it’s day, it was a guitar building shop, then a museum. It’s an iconic building today that attracts many folk just for the photo value. I love this building and I’m totally said to have recently learned they will be tearing it down. For what reason, I don’t know. It’s not like there is a shortage of room to build out there. It’s all by it’s lonesome on the edge of town.

  4. That is so awesome – love it!

  5. Cool photo! You really seem to get out and about and explore! I love your shots but those with the bike (is it a Harley?) appeal to me more, I love it when you sneak it in there, well maybe not sneak because it seems to fit so well when you place it in the photo!

The museum looks kinda lonely, almost haunted!

    • Dave, that bike is a 1993 1200cc Sportster by Harley Davidson. I bought it in 2004 with 1200 miles on it. I now have 194,000 miles on it. I’ve traveled from coast to coast and from border to border on it many times. (North/South &East/West and vice a versa) I’d not be surprised to hear that the building is haunted, so many great legends actually visited this place to have one of a kind special guitars made for them by Joe Morrell back in the day.

  6. Amazing shot. I love the “string” hanging down.
